Education HUB

Microsoft Teams can be the hub for all your school needs

Education HUB where we provide all the tools your organization needs to make Microsoft Teams the central point of all your education needs. Schools can order both tools separately, we would always advise to use both tools because they just work better together.

Education HUB Sync

If your school uses Magister or Eduarte we have the solution for you. We can provision and sync users and Teams from you School Administration System (SAS).

User provisioning

Running a school in Microsoft 365 first requires every user to have an account. With Education HUB sync, we allow you to quickly provision users from your SAS. In a few clicks you can filter and select the users you want to provision or skip. Your choice to provision a user, will create it in Microsoft 365 and keep it updated until you stop the synchronization or until this user is removed from the source system.

Team provisioning

An average school with 1500 students needs about 900 Teams each school year if you want a Team per subject. Creating these and maintaining the members can be a massive job. Education HUB sync takes all the information from your SAS and presents it as a filterable table. From this table you choose which groups should have a Team and within seconds all those Teams are created in Microsoft Teams. During the lifetime of this Team the members are automatically synced multiple times per day. There won’t be any lag between administration and team members.

At the end of the school year, you can use our tool to archive all those teams. Archiving is important because schools are required to keeps records of previous work. You don’t want users messing with the archived teams so we will remove access for students, change access for teachers to just members and hide the team from the address list, making sure you cannot find the old teams in Outlook and accidentally email the wrong (old) group.

Education HUB Content

In The Netherlands we digitalized a lot of school materials, but we still have the good old fashion “boekenlijst”. Filled with digital licenses to digital books, which is not more then a website where you have to login with your school account.

To bring these digital books to Teams we developed two things.

SCIM receiver (ECK ID)

We need the ECK ID in your own Entra ID environment to be able to pass it with the federated logins with Entree. We configure a receiver specially for your organization that will write the personal ECK ID as an attribute in Entra ID. This attribute is then mapped to the Entree federation application as an addition claim. You still have the same Microsoft SLA on logins, but your users can now also use the ECK ID with Entree.

Our solution deliberately does not interfere with the login session, everything regarding logins is kept in your own Entra ID tenant. And once an ECK ID is loaded in your environment by our receiver we will never touch that user again and the Entree federation login will continue to work until you remove/disable that user.

Content API

Next to the SCIM receiver we also host an API that does all the heavy lifting in getting the correct content links for each student/teacher. Those links can be loaded in three different ways:

  1. Through EDU-IX you can request all the school licenses and assign those to groups
  2. Through EDU-IX we automatically load personal licenses for each user
  3. You can add products based on EAN, and assign those to groups as well

Apart from these 3 semi-automatic ways, all teachers have the ability to add additional links to which ever website they like.

We built this API to be cloud first and integration it directly in your own Entra ID environment. To access this api you need a token from Entra, both user and application tokens are supported. The API is what you pay for per student per year. And how you use it is all up-to-you.

We provide a teams app that you can install inside teams and allow teachers and students to access their materials from there. There is also a website where everybody can access their materials. Both of these applications have offline caching built-in, meaning if our server is ever down and the user did already open his/her content on that machine, they still have access. With the only downside that we cannot refresh the data at this point.

There also is a SharePoint sample webpart you can add to your own environment if you want to present this data in SharePoint instead of teams.

These three applications all integrate with Entra to get a token for the API, and from there it is just a matter of loading the correct endpoint. Our content api also has an openapi specification in case our applications don’t suit your needs.
